The Medical and Health Business Area of INESC P&D Brazil is devoted to the conception, management and execution of research and development of products and techniques that can be applied in the health area, such as medicine, physiotherapy and veterinary. The action lines of this area are widely varied and comprise the development of equipment and techniques that can be applied in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, as well as the development of prosthetics, orthosis, wearables, and other devices that can be used to attenuate problems that result from disabilities, fix motor aspects, and compensate functional insufficiencies. It should be stressed that this business area has a strong relationship with the following IB's research areas: biomedical engineering; biotechnology, environment and sustainability; sensors and actuators; robotics and smart systems; and artificial intelligence and data science.
