Roberto da Piedade Francisco was born in 1958 in Santos, São Paulo State, Brazil. In 1995 received the B.Sc. degree from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in Mechanical Engineering and later in 2003 the title of M.Sc in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina. In 2000 completed MBA in Business Management from UCG/FGV and has also several courses in the Manufacturing, Logistics and Quality Management areas. In the academic scope served between 2003 and 2013 in some institutions of higher education, both in undergraduate courses (Engineering, Administration) as for postgraduate courses having been lecturer, for example, in the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto, Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás and Alves Faria College. In 2013 prepared the business plan of SENAI Institute for Innovation in Logistics in partnership with the Fraunhofer Institute (IPK) and in 2014 awarded the European Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering and Management in the University of Porto. Since 2006 works with INESC Porto, Portugal, as researcher and scholar of the European project VFF-Virtual Factory Framework. As Engineer, from 1988 to 2002, he served in Portugal, Germany and Brazil in medium and large industrial companies, such as: Wollbacher Brot GmbH, Unilever-Bestfoods, Iberomoldes and Marcopolo.
