A Platform for Automatic Recommendation of Points of Interest in Brazilian Cities: Architecture and Pilot Project
The tourism sector in Brazil grew at a rate of 13.1% in 2012. Events like the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013, FIFA World Cup 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016 will further drive the growth of the sector in coming years. Despite the growth of the tourism sector, this one still presents several problems, such as the lack of information for Brazilian tourists, and especially the lack of information in English for foreign tourists. A possible solution to the lack of information with respect to points of interest (tourist sites and services) is the design and development of a platform for a context-aware recommendation system to recommend points of interest to the tourists. The project “A Platform for Automatic Recommendation of Points of Interest in Brazilian Cities: Architecture and Pilot project” is based on an innovative vision of a context-aware platform for recommending points of interest, which will be designed with mechanisms for collecting data from the web, for extracting points of interest and background information, and for learning context-aware recommendation models.
The project is being developed by the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Sao Paulo (ICMC/USP), in Sao Carlos; and its partner institution INESC R&D Brazil.
